Prerequisites:

-  a CM93 camera

-  an active LC90-1 tracking license

This Hybrid Tracking mode is the most advanced tracking the CM93 has to offer, switching seamlessly between the free movement tracking of the Presenter Mode with fixed preset behaviour on areas of interest (blackboard/ whiteboard, presentation screens etc.).

Things to keep in mind:

  • The zoom function is active for this tracking mode, Avonic advises to use similar zoom levels between free tracking areas and points of interest where the camera stays stationary. If there are large differences between zoom levels, the video output can be perceived as restless.
  • The Body Position is in use, allowing you to switch between three different zoom levels when tracking a person.
  • The Lower Left and Upper Right tracking limits are active, allowing you to set a stage area within which the camera shall stay. This area is defined by an Upper Right and a Lower Left limit.
  • If a tracked person is lost for whatever reason during tracking, the camera will use internal Preset 200 as a Pick-up point for the presenter to be tracked again.

1. Navigate to the tab 'Tracking':

Open the webinterface of the camera using an incognito browser window and navigate to the 'Tracking' tab. Select the Hybrid Tracking mode.

2. Set stage tracking limits

Set the Upper Left and Lower Right limits to define the maximum pan and tilt movement of the camera. Setting these limits defines your tracking area, the camera will not track beyond the set boundaries. If you make a mistake and would like to do it again, the limits can also be cleared.

Make sure the Upper Right and Lower Left limits are set well beyond the Areas of interest, these limits cannot be the same as the edge of a stationary position.

WARNING - A small UI bug may cause the limit buttons to not activate properly. Switching tabs will resolve the issue.

3. Define the tracking shot.

The Hybrid Tracking mode can make use of three different compositions; close-up, mid-shot or a wide shot. Remember the remark in the top of this article about the difference in zoom levels between areas of interest and free tracking.

Wide Shot:

4. Define the area(s) of interest where the camera will stay in a fixed position.

The CM93 has the possibility to create four areas where it 'stays on target' for example a whiteboard or a blackboard, a research table, whatever you can think of that might be interesting while presenting. It's as simple as 'point and click' to define these areas. They are visually represented in the bottom of the screen, see screenshot below. There are four defined areas, but only three are active in this setup.

5. Configure the default tracking pick-up or fall back position

The Presenter mode can have a defined default position to return to when the tracked person is lost or when nobody has been in the presenting area for a while. This position has been defined at camera internal preset 200. You can define this position to be a the desk of a teacher for example, where he would start his class. If nobody is seen or a target is lost, the camera will return to that position and wait for a person to enter the field of view again. As this is an internal preset of the camera, you can determine the speed with which it goes back to this position by defining the preset speed
