Getting Started

This article explains how to perform an iris calibration using a hexadecimal command, followed by a physical power cycle, a factory reset and a focus calibration.

The same iris calibration procedure applies to all AVONIC camera models.

Preparation

Save Your Settings

Save your settings before starting. This procedure includes a factory reset, which resets the camera configuration. Record the settings you need to restore, including the network configuration.

Lighting Conditions

  • Carry out the calibration indoors under stable artificial lighting.
  • Preferably use flicker-free lighting.
  • Close blinds or curtains to prevent changing sunlight from affecting the calibration.
  • Keep the lighting conditions constant throughout the calibration.

What You Need

  • Access to the camera and its power connections.
  • A control connection and a utility that can send hexadecimal commands, such as Hercules SETUP Utility or Packet Sender.
  • A monitor or live video view to check the result.
  • The focus calibration instructions for your camera.

Use the control connection and VISCA settings confirmed for your camera. For guidance on sending commands, see AVONIC VISCA documentation.

Calibration Procedure

Carry out the following steps in order.

  1. Prepare the camera and lighting.
Switch the camera on and confirm that you can view its live image. Check that the lighting is stable and that you have recorded the camera configuration.
  2. Send the iris calibration command.
Connect your command utility to the intended camera. Set the send format to HEXand manually send the following command:
    81 0A 01 03 11 FF
  3. Allow the iris calibration to finish.
Keep the camera powered on and the lighting stable while calibration is running. Wait until calibration has completed before continuing.
  4. Physically switch the camera off and on.
After iris calibration has finished, fully disconnect the camera's power. If both an external power supply and PoE are connected, disconnect both so the camera is completely off. Reconnect power and allow the camera to complete its startup.
  5. Reset the camera to factory defaults.
Use the factory reset procedure for your camera model. Remember that this resets the camera configuration. Re-establish access to the camera as needed after the reset.
  6. Perform a focus calibration after the factory reset.
Follow the Focus Calibration Using the IR Remote Control procedure for your camera model, including the test-sheet setup and the physical power cycle after focus calibration.
  7. Check the result.
Check whether the image remains stable. Test focus and zoom at the distances and positions normally used in the installation, then reconfigure the camera for normal operation.

Important: a physical power cycle is required after iris calibration. Disconnect and reconnect the camera's power. A reboot through the web interface, control software or a reboot command does not replace this step.

Troubleshooting

The Camera Does Not Respond to the Command

  • Check that you are connected to the intended camera.
  • Check that the connection settings match the camera's configured control mode.
  • Check that the command is entered exactly as shown and sent as hexadecimal data.

The Image Is Still Unstable

Check that all steps were completed in the stated order, including the physical power cycle, factory reset and subsequent focus calibration. If the problem persists, contact AVONIC Support and include:

  • The camera model and serial number.
  • A description of the lighting conditions and the steps completed.
  • Any command responses or error messages.
  • A short video showing the remaining issue.
