There are several ways to control your camera. This article provides an overview of three common methods: IR remote control, serial control, and IP control. Each approach offers unique benefits depending on your setup and requirements.

IR Remote Control

A remote control can operate up to four cameras. For more information on the remote control buttons, see CM4x/CM7x IR remote control buttons.

Advanced OSD Configuration

For advanced configuration, use the OSD (On-Screen Display) available through the camera’s SDI or HDMI outputs. Press the MENU button on the remote control to open the OSD on the connected display (see How can I open the OSD menu of my camera?):

Serial Control

CM7x series cameras support the VISCA (RS-232/RS-485) and Pelco-D/P (RS485) protocols. Refer to the camera user manual for specific VISCA commands.

Controlling Multiple Cameras

Multiple cameras can be controlled simultaneously using a daisy-chain network setup and a controller, such as the CON300-IP:

RS-485 Control

IP Control

The CM7x series supports VISCA over IP, enabling control via a laptop, IP controller, or third-party solution. Multiple cameras on the same network can be managed this way:

IP CONTROL

HTTP API

Over an IP connection, the camera supports an HTTP API (for example, on CM7x series). These commands can be tested through a browser window or via Command Line using cURL. More instructions and a complete list of commands can be found in the camera user manual.

Web Interface (WebGui)

It is also possible to set up and operate the camera from its web interface, also called WebGui. See How to open the camera’s web gui?. This interface allows for adjusting PTZ control, speed by zoom slider, focus and zoom functions, presets, and other settings. However, for professional control, we recommend using one of the methods described above.

Web GUI

In the camera web GUI (by default available on 192.168.5.163) are some basic but very practical control options available:

Note: Always open it in a private/incognito window to avoid any possible web browser cache issues

On the right you can find the different Control options: Pan and Tilt control keys, arrow in the middle to return to the HOME position, a bar to adjust the Pan/Tilt Speed, different Focus modes, zoom control, Manual Focus control, and some Presets options to set/call/delete presets :
