How to enable USB on the CM93

The CM93 can be used as a high-resolution USB camera, but this functionality is not enabled by default. To activate USB streaming, a setting must be changed using the camera's OSD menu.

When first connected via USB, you might see a default screen or placeholder image in applications like the Windows Camera app, Zoom, or Microsoft Teams:

USB identification of cameras in Windows

Avonic PTZ cameras feature improved USB identification to simplify multi-camera setups. Starting with firmware updates from June 2022, each camera is now identified using the "Avonic" label followed by the last four characters of its MAC address. This is particularly helpful in environments where multiple cameras are connected simultaneously.

Previously, all Avonic cameras appeared under the same name—FHD Camera. For example:

- Windows Device Manager:

Multiple cameras as FHD Camera in Device Manager

- Skype video conference software:

Multiple FHD Camera entries in Skype

With the updated firmware, each camera is uniquely labeled:

- Windows Device Manager:

Avonic USB camera with unique identifier in Device Manager

- Skype video conference software:

Avonic camera with MAC suffix in Skype device list

Troubleshooting low quality video over USB

If you're experiencing low video quality with the CAP100 in a video conferencing setup, check the following:

  1. Verify the resolution settings on the camera's HDMI output.
  2. Check what device the camera is connected to. If using a video mixer, confirm its output resolution settings.
  3. Open an alternate application such as the Windows Camera app to verify if the issue persists outside Zoom or Teams. If the image is fine there, the issue may be specific to your conferencing software.
  4. Check your PC's system performance. Press CTRL + SHIFT + ESC to open Task Manager, go to the Performance tab, and inspect CPU, GPU, and memory usage. If any values are close to 100%, this may impact video quality.
